About PlantCompare
What We Do
PlantCompare helps gardeners and plant enthusiasts compare plants side-by-side. Whether you're choosing between houseplants, garden perennials, or edible plants, our comparisons cover light needs, watering, hardiness zones, growth rates, and care difficulty. We built PlantCompare so you can make confident planting decisions without juggling multiple tabs and conflicting advice.
Our Data Sources
Every plant profile on PlantCompare is built from reputable horticultural and botanical sources. Our primary data sources include:
- Perenual API for plant data and imagery
- USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map
- Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) databases
- University extension services, including Cornell Cooperative Extension and UC Davis Agriculture & Natural Resources
- Established horticultural reference guides
Our Methodology
We aggregate plant data from botanical databases and standardize care metrics so every comparison uses a consistent framework. Each plant profile includes scientific name, common names, light and water requirements, hardiness zones, mature size, and care difficulty. Comparisons let you evaluate which plants suit your climate, available space, and experience level — all on a single page.
Editorial Standards
Botanical classifications on PlantCompare follow accepted taxonomy. Care instructions are cross-referenced against multiple horticultural sources to ensure accuracy. We prioritize evidence-based guidance over anecdotal advice. Hardiness zones reference USDA standards. We update plant profiles as new cultivar data becomes available, and we regularly review existing content to reflect the latest horticultural research.
